Narita in his afterwords makes it really seem like he’s a pretty big fan of Fate, and I feel it even more with all of the different nods he’s spread throughout the story. I haven’t even met every servant yet, but I can already tell that this is easily one of the most interesting batches of Servants I’ve ever seen in a HGW. I think the best thing about it is the fact that because of the establishment of “this isn’t your normal Grail War” Narita has gotten really creative with his servants, masters, and circumstances. Because of that, I haven’t really run into any huge huge plot twists or anything (though there have been some twists), but so far, the story has been really interesting and gripping for me. Now, at this point, I’m only at the beginning of Volume 3, while the fan translation goes up to about halfway through Volume 5, though it’s being updated regularly.

Type-Moon’s staff approached him about how they liked it and thought he should turn it into a full fledged story, and that’s where we are now. Interestingly to note, this story actually is a continuation of an April Fool’s joke from 2008 that the writer, Narita, concocted himself. However, due to the bizarre (or perhaps strange) nature of the ritual taking place, it leaves out one of the seven servant classes, saber, making it a very different conflict then the Holy Grail Wars of before. In the fictional city of Snowfield, Nevada, some mages have come together in hopes of holding their own Holy Grail War, and lure some other mages in with the promise of their wish being granted, like any other Grail War. I’ll talk about Strange Fake first, as it’s a bit further along than the latter.įate/Strange Fake, as I mentioned, takes place after Fate/Stay Night sometime (though the connection is only a nod here or there, as writer himself leave’s it to the reader what route it takes place after).
